Canada Arab investment conference in Toronto October 17-18, 2016 Report

The Canada Arab Business Council is happy to report that the Canada Arab investment conference in Toronto October 17-18, was a success. The participation of 3 political leaders – Minister of International Trade Chrystia Freeland, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne, and Toronto Mayor John Tory was unprecedented and raised the profile of both the region and the Council. We were honoured to have former Ontario Premier, David Peterson, chair the conference.

Hon. Chrystia Freeland, P.C., M.P.,
Minister of International Trade

Robust trade and investment relationships are important to generating economic activity that creates jobs and growth for the middle class. I commend the Canada Arab Business Council for its important and ongoing efforts to promote trade, cultural, business, investment and economic links between Canada and the Middle East and North Africa.

Hon. Kathleen Wynne,
Premier of Ontario

Over the past decade, the Gulf Cooperation Council region has been one of the fastest growing areas in the world. With calls for a diversification of the economy and a shift away from hydrocarbon reliance in the region — this is a moment of unprecedented opportunity for GCC states and for our province. Ontario businesses need to be part of this next wave of expected growth.

Mohammad Al-Zaibak, Chair,
Canada Arab Business Council

Most people are unaware of the amount of business between Canada and Arab countries. With 60% of the population under 25 years of age, a growing middle class and 62% of the population living in cities, the business opportunities in the Arab world are enormous.CABC’s primary objective is to bring Canadian and Arab business communities together.

The panel speakers were excellent as was the discussion and networking throughout the conference. Participants took full advantage of the opportunity to exchange experience and insights with business executives from the Arab world and Canada.
